The first manned space flight in the history of the Earth took place on this day in 1961. The first pilot-cosmonaut was a citizen of the Soviet Union, pilot-cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who for 108 minutes orbited the globe aboard the “Vostok” space ship.
