Easter is called Paskha in Russian and its celebrated based on Julian calendar. It comes from Jewish word Pasque which means Passing with Christ to the other life. Easter Sunday is a very happy and holy occasion for Russian Orthodox Christians.

The Procession of the Cross (a solemn procession of the faithful with candles and icons) and Easter service is held on the night from Saturday to Sunday and lasts all night. The Procession shows on some TV channels.

On this day people color boiled eggs, bake delicious Easter cakes, make cheese Passover. Believers try to sanctify these Easter dishes in the church.

On this day, believers greet each other with the words “Christ is risen!”, to which you must respond, “Truly He is risen”. The abbreviation “XB” is found on many postcards and even on Easter eggs.
